Hiring Our Heroes Joins Wreaths Across America to Remember, Honor, Teach
Every December thousands of volunteers participate in Wreaths Across America, laying wreaths at veteran cemeteries across the country. Their focus is to carry out the organization’s central goals: “REMEMBER the Fallen. . . HONOR those who Serve. . . TEACH our children the value of Freedom.”
Wreaths Across America traces its history back to 1992 when the first 5,000 wreaths were donated by Morrill Worcester, owner of the Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine. Today, Wreaths Across America has grown to become a national nonprofit organization that comprises more than 1,500 fundraising groups in all 50 states. Each year more than 1,200 participating locations, including Arlington National Cemetery, receive a combined total of more than 1.2 million donated wreaths, each of which is placed on a veteran’s headstone.
This year Hiring Our Heroes is joining the effort to procure the wreaths that will be placed on National Wreaths Across America Day, which will be observed on Saturday, December 16. You can join Hiring Our Heroes in this endeavor by sponsoring a wreath to be placed in honor or memory of a veteran at Arlington National Cemetery.
In 2016, every headstone at Arlington National Cemetery received a wreath and Hiring Our Heroes hopes to see this honor repeated in 2017.
Individual wreath sponsors make up a significant portion of the program funding and your donation will sponsor one of the more than 245,000 wreaths needed at Arlington National Cemetery. In addition, part of your donation will also support Hiring Our Heroes’s programs, such as those that prepare transitioning service members for civilian employment and those that offer career development resources and opportunities for military spouses and veterans.
