Hiring Our Heroes

Meet Evan and Shyla Jones. This dynamic military couple recently completed their Google Career Certificates (GCC) together through the Hiring Our Heroes Career Forward program.

Shyla was ready for a career change after 15 years in early childhood education, while Evan sought to upskill for his duties in the Marine Corps. Together, they tackled the GCC Data Analytics course and supported each other as accountability partners. The flexibility of the self-paced, online program was ideal for the Joneses and the couple worked side by side most evenings after their son went to sleep. They even maintained their routine through video calls when Evan was away for training.

“We’re high school sweethearts, and so we have 17 years of trying new things, going on new adventures, and finding common goals together. It seems natural for us to do things together and encourage one another along the way,” the couple explained.

Shyla plans to leverage her new skills to explore fellowship opportunities through Hiring Our Heroes, and Evan is already applying his learning within his role in the Marine Corps and has broadened his options for his eventual transition out of the military. Their teamwork and dedication to lifelong learning highlight the strength of their relationship and their commitment to professional growth.
